Layla Angela Charette was a bright, creative and loving five-year-old from Cumberland, Rhode Island, whose life was tragically cut short by sepsis on February 12, 2017.
Layla was known for her beautiful smile, kind heart and giving spirit. She loved her family and friends and had a special way of making the people around her feel loved.
Following her sudden illness and passing, Layla’s family created Layla’s Dream as a way to honor her memory and turn an unimaginable loss into something that could help others.
Today, Layla’s Dream carries her spirit forward by supporting sepsis research and awareness, helping children receiving care at Hasbro Children’s Hospital, and providing comfort and resources to their families. The organization has also been part of the effort to improve sepsis awareness and treatment in Rhode Island so that other families might be spared a similar loss.
Layla may have only been five years old, but her impact continues to be felt through every child and family helped in her name.

Layla’s Dream is a Cumberland, Rhode Island-based 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to helping children and families facing serious medical challenges while supporting greater awareness and research surrounding sepsis.
At the heart of our mission is a commitment to Hasbro Children’s Hospital and the families who rely on its care. Through fundraising, community events and the generosity of our supporters, Layla’s Dream provides toys and essential items for children receiving treatment, along with self-care items, resources and support for their families during some of life’s most difficult moments.
Layla’s Dream also supports sepsis research and awareness, helping advance the understanding of a life-threatening condition that can affect children and adults alike.
